On Sunday, July 14th, Pastor Darrell and Bonnie announced that after months of prayer and planning, and 34 years of leading New Life Church as Senior Pastors, they are stepping down at the end of July to pursue the next season God has called them. On Sunday, July 28th they will place Pastor Josh and Megan Huffman as the new Senior Pastors. We are excited for the new season of transition taking place at New Life Church! Below is a special letter that Pastor Darrell and Bonnie recently sent to the Church.
As you have probably heard, some great new changes are taking place at New Life Church and with Bonnie and I. In our Sunday morning service, I announced that we will be setting Joshua and Megan in as Lead Pastors of New Life Church. Bonnie and I have had a strong unction for the last year that we are to go out and bring strength and refreshing to the Body of Christ. The Lord gave me these verses, Acts 16:4-5, “ 4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered to them the decrees to keep, which were determined by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem. 5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.” So, as we make this commitment to obey the Lord and go out, we are believing to see great things take place in the churches.
We are also excited about the future of New Life Church! The Lord didn’t send me here to build a one generation church. As my season of leading New Life comes to a close, I have great joy and peace to see my son step into that leadership role. With Joshua as pastor, New Life will continue to reach the next generation with the full gospel message we have been established on. We, as a church, will be equipped to press on into the days ahead with the strength and stability of knowing that what the Lord has begun, He will continue to do.
As we go through this time of transition, I ask you to continue to stand strong in your faith and stay committed to New Life Church. I know this can be an emotional time as Bonnie and I have been flooded with all kinds of emotions ourselves. We ask you to do as we have and commit your emotions to the Lord and by faith trust that this change is of God and that you will be a part of it.
Bonnie and I will be going out more but we will still be a vital part of New Life Church. We are not leaving the church and neither should anybody else. Bonnie will still be overseeing her women’s conference in October and I will still be ministering in services at New Life Church. We plan to keep active in the vision that God gave New Life and we are asking all of our Covenant Partners and friends to do the same.
As I close, let me say that Bonnie and I love you, all of our partners and friends at New Life Church. It has been our great privilege and joy to be your pastors and to be a part of your life. These things will not change, we will continue to be here for you, helping New Life Church to continue its mission of Making Jesus Lord over Huntington, the Tri-State, Nation, and the World. I am asking you to pray through any sad emotions and join with us as we celebrate what the Lord is going to do with New Life Church, Pastor Josh and Megan, and Bonnie and me.
As always, I continue to pray for you that God’s very best will be yours.
In His Service,
Pastor Darrell Huffman
